Detective David White

Detective David White was laid to rest yesterday with 100% of the community behind his legacy and support for his family.  Russell Haven of Rest Funeral Home and Cemetery were very honored to have served the White family.  David White's obituary reads as follows:

David Adam White, Dave, 35, beloved husband and father, United States Army veteran, and detective for The Clay County Sheriff's Office, passed away tragically on Thursday evening, February 16, 2012 while on duty as a narcotics detective.

Born on Veterans' Day of the Bicentennial, Dave was the ultimate All-American hero, having served in the US Army as a combat MP in both Bosnia and Iraq. Born in Jacksonville, FL, he grew up in Middleburg, FL, graduating from Middleburg High School in 1995. He received his B.S. in Criminal Justice from The University of Central Florida in December 2001. He attended the North Florida Criminal Justice Academy, graduating in 2002 and ultimately taking a job with the Clay County Sheriff's Department in December of 2002.

He and his beautiful wife, Jennifer Murphy White, were married February 23, 2002. He considered his greatest accomplishments his beloved daughter, age 4, his precious son, age 5 months, and his special "boys," Beau and Luke. He is also survived by his adoring mother and father, Sandy and David White, his sister, Rachel, her husband, Kevin, his nephew, age 9 months, and his special Aunt Linda and Uncle Langston. He is also survived by his in-laws, Jerry and Anne Murphy, who love him very much, and his two grandmothers, both Anna's. He also has numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Visiting hours will be held at Russell Haven of Rest, Sunday afternoon, from 1 to 4 PM, and services will be held at Middleburg First Baptist Church on Monday, February 20, at 10 AM.
The family wishes to thank everyone for all of their prayers. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Northeast Florida Concerns of Police Survivors or to The Salvation Army of Clay County.

The media was a huge help with asking people to line the streets to show their loving support for the White family.

Thanks to all of the service men and women that so generously service our community!

Cremation

Okay, so you have said, “I don’t want a funeral, just cremate me.” That statement only addresses what is to be done with your physical body. After all, cremation is just a different way of preparing the body, the individual spirit still remains. To your family and friends, you are more than a body. Consider your loved ones’ need to unite and celebrate “who” you are. Part of our human nature is a desire to be remembered. Surveys show that most people prefer to know there is a special place of remembrance of a deceased loved one, a place where their name is recorded. The best grief recovery is begun by a meaningful gathering of family and friends. Whether it is a formal, traditional church funeral service or it is a designated, but casual, time of sharing at a favorite specific location, it is important to have a final moment.

Here at Russell Haven of Rest, our cremation unit (crematorium) is located IN our funeral homeRHR is the ONLY funeral home in clay county where this is true.  This allows us to care for the body throughout the entire cremation process under our supervision.

Pre-Arrangement

Preplanning gives individuals and families the opportunity to become informed about products and services that are available. Many people have no idea about what is involved in making final arrangements. Most do not even know the terminology or questions to ask the professionals in order to compare services and prices. Since the cost of final arrangements is a major purchase, consumer education is of utmost importance. The State of Florida has provided a strict legal code to protect consumers when dealing with licensed providers. State inspections of grounds and audits of records ensure protection, but it is the consumer's responsibility to become educated.
Frequently Asked Questions/Preplanning
Can I make my funeral/cemetery arrangements before I die? Yes, many see preplanning as properly taking responsibility for their mortal remains or as showing their family a final act of love. Russell Haven of Rest is properly licensed by the state of Florida and is available during regular business hours at our office. We will make an appointment to meet you in your home if you prefer.

Why should I preplan?
Though nobody likes to talk about it, dying is an inevitable part of living. Most people feel a sense of accomplishment and relief after preplanning.
You choose how your life will be memorialized.
You can relieve emotional and financial pressures on your loved ones.
You will be able to select a price category and payment plan that suits your budget.
You lock in the cost of a future need at today's prices.
You will be able to use sound judgment by gathering facts and information at your leisure.
You have the opportunity to discuss your preferences with family members.

Where do I start?
The first step is gathering information - educate yourself with the facts. As you become more aware of what is available, you will begin to develop ideas about exactly what your preferences are. You can do this by visiting funeral homes and cemeteries on-line and on location. At Russell Haven of Rest, you will receive a free organizer to help guide you and as much time and information as you wish - we will never rush you. Ask your friends for references. Be a comparison shopper. Deal with properly licensed firms and individuals, and be sure that you feel comfortable with them.  Ask specific questions and ask to see the licenses. One of the advantages of choosing Russell Haven of Rest is that we can accommodate any part or all of your personal preplanning needs at one location - our funeral home is on our beautiful cemetery property.

What are the services and merchandise that are available to me?
As with any major purchase, become educated with available options. Merchandise decisions may include: caskets, vaults, urns, register book packages and other personalized items. Consider the options for types and location of a ceremony - you choose what best fits your faith and family traditions and gives comfort to your loved ones. Next, you can select cemetery property for ground burial or cremation niches, a grave marker or monument. Information such as where you were born, parents' names, items you would like placed in your obituary, pallbearers, speakers, a copy of military discharge papers, all selections of merchandise and property, location of ceremony and any other bits of information you feel is important will be placed in your file. Whatever your choices, at RHR you will find value, as we assure competitive pricing. You will receive an itemized pricing guide with factual information regarding each item. You may decide to do everything at once, or proceed in steps. Finally, you may pay for the merchandise and services through one of our flexible funding programs.

What happens to the money that I prepay? At Russell Haven of Rest the funds are kept in a state-audited trust fund.

The Board of Funeral, Cemetery and Consumer Services in Tallahassee has authority over all licensed agencies. A signed pre-need contract with a funeral service provider is a binding agreement, so the staff at Russell Haven of Rest will take the time to make sure that you fully understand what you are signing. There is a Funeral and Cemetery Hotline: 1-800-323-2627.

Russell Haven of Rest is a phone call away. A friendly staff member will meet you at a time that is convenient for you. The choices made will be yours. The content of your file is confidential. And the "Peace of mind" created will be yours and your family's to enjoy.
If you have not preplanned  a funeral with Russell Haven of Rest and a death has occurred, we will take the necessary time to help you through the necessary decisions. Our staff is confident, and we will further gain your trust as we work together.
